Aevum unveils smallsat-launching drone aircraft

Aevum CEO Jay Skylus said Ravn X will be ready for operations within the next 18 months after it clears regulatory reviews.

WASHINGTON — Small launch startup Aevum on Dec. 3 unveiled its Ravn X vehicle, a reusable drone aircraft and rocket combination designed to launch small payloads to orbit.

Ravn X has been years in development. Aevum, based in Huntsville, Alabama, is positioning Ravn X to compete in the increasingly crowded small launch market, promising fast-response service enabled by an autonomous aircraft that can take off from any mile-long runway.

“This is the first time we’re showing the full vehicle, all three stages,” Aevum founder and CEO Jay Skylus told SpaceNews.

“Now we will start doing vehicle level testing that’s required for air-worthiness certification and launch licensing,” Skylus said.

The 55,000-pound unpiloted aircraft is 80 feet long with a 60-foot wingspan. While in flight it will release a two-stage

Intel unveils its second-generation quantum computing control chip

Intel unveiled its second-generation quantum computing control chip during its Intel Labs virtual event today. The chip, code-named Horse Ridge II, is another milestone toward making quantum computing — one of the holy grails of computing — more practical. The new prototype builds on the first-generation Horse Ridge controller introduced in 2019. Horse Ridge II has more capability and higher levels of integration to control a quantum computer, which remains a long-term goal for the company.

At the outset of the project, Intel’s researchers designed the scalable system-on-chip (SOC) to operate at cryogenic temperatures, simplifying the control electronics and interconnects required to elegantly scale and operate large quantum computing systems. The challenge of quantum computing is that right now, it only really works at near-freezing temperatures. Intel is trying to change that, but in the meantime, the control chip eliminates having to run hundreds of wires into a refrigerated case

El Pollo Loco Unveils New L.A. Mex Restaurant Design with Enhanced Off-Premise Convenience and … | Money

The restaurant designs share an enhanced digitized experience – including cubbies for mobile to-go orders, a double drive-thru with digital menu boards, and GPS-enabled curbside pick-up, all integrated with the company’s dynamic and versatile mobile app.

To honor the brand’s heritage and highlight what makes El Pollo Loco so unique, subtle brand cues permeate throughout the entire restaurant, from the cleaver door handles (which is a nod to the fact that all chicken is cut to order) to the turning fork chandeliers (which repurposes a tool of trade used by the brand’s skilled Grill Masters). Similarly, murals, imagery and city maps evoking the brand’s 40-year Los Angeles hometown roots on the interior and exterior walls.

“Where you will see our commitment to design manifest itself in the most dramatic of ways is with our new restaurant of the future,” said Brian Carmichall, Chief Development Officer at El Pollo Loco. “To

Telecom company Rain said it has set up South Africa’s first commercial fifth-generation mobile network in two large cities using equipment from China’s Huawei.

The restriction, first reported by Bloomberg last Monday, is part of a 250 million-pound ($333 million) package of measures brought in to diversify Britain’s wireless supply chain announced by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. The stricter rules may also help fend off a challenge from lawmakers in the ruling Conservative Party seeking tighter restrictions on the Chinese network equipment maker.

VMware unveils new framework for data centre, cloud networking

VMware unveiled the Modern Network framework to enable businesses, and their IT and application development teams, to accelerate adapting to a new normal. VMware said it also announced further enhancements to its virtual networking products and services to help customers realise a modern network of their own.

The Modern Network framework

The Modern Network framework takes a top-down view, creating a network that understands the needs of the application and programmatically managing infrastructure to meet those needs. The Modern Network framework is described by three key pillars: ‘Modern application connectivity services’, ‘Multi-cloud network virtualisation’ and ‘Physical network infrastructure.’

The first pillar enables developers to connect the microservices of a modern application with self-service tools that developers can use without help from central IT.

Underneath this, the second pillar provides a set of essential network services that are fully automated and defined in software. These services include all essential networking functions

Superyacht Social Media Influencer Unveils Concept Yacht

Norwegian Denis Suka may not be a superyacht owner, designer or builder. But his influence with well over 300,000 superyacht loving social media followers (@theyachtmogul) can’t be denied. And now that he’s developed a 300-foot-long superyacht concept with Bhushan Powar, he hopes to “influence” just one extremely wealthy yacht owner who shares his vison.

“My biggest goal is to bring something different to the yachting industry,” he says. And as you can see in these renderings, the sharp bow and angular lines of the concept stretch the boundaries of large yacht design a bit.

And while the angular bow may provide less volume for storage and sundecks than more conventional bows, it is still large enough to accommodate a touch and go helipad.

China Unveils New Regulations To Curb Anti-Trust Practices

KEY POINTS

  • Internet platforms not outside of antitrust laws: Regulators
  • A week ago, regulators grounded Ant Group’s $35-billion IPO
  • New rules by regulators for internet transactions will be released by June 2021

Upsetting China’s super-rich and its investors alike, the Communist nation is stepping up efforts to control some of its biggest technology companies in a bid to weed out antitrust practices.

On Tuesday, Beijing announced new regulations to curb monopolistic practices in the internet industry and reduce the influence of big corporations like Alibaba and Tencent in the market, Bloomberg reported. This comes a week after Beijing put new restrictions on the financial markets and in turn, suspended the $35-billion IPO of the Ant Group, which was expected to be the largest on the planet.

With the new regulations, Beijing seeks to create a framework, wherein anti-competitive practices can be stopped. These practices include sharing customer data and mergers
