Hewlett Packard Enterprise to move headquarters to Texas

SPRING, Texas (AP) — Tech giant Hewlett Packard Enterprise said it is moving its global headquarters to the Houston area from California, where the company’s roots go back to the founding of Silicon Valley decades ago.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s office announced that the relocation will increase the company’s presence in the area, which is already home to more than 2,600 employees. The company also has locations in Austin and Plano.

HPE is building a 440,000-square-foot campus in two five-story buildings in the Houston suburb of Spring. The campus is set for completion in 2022.

“As we look to the future, our business needs, opportunities for cost savings, and team members’ preferences about the future of work, we are excited to relocate HPE’s headquarters to the Houston region,” CEO Antonio Neri said in a written statement Tuesday.

Adam Bauer, a company spokesperson, said that employee relocation is voluntary.

After obtaining a ground lease agreement with the city, American Cricket Enterprises, the parent company of Major League Cricket, announced plans Wednesday to transform the old AirHogs baseball stadium in Grand Prairie into a 5,400-person cricket stadium using architectural design plans from HKS.

Once the stadium opens in 2022, it is expected to serve as a catalyst for diverse real estate development inside the city’s only designated opportunity zone — an area that’s already home to horse-racing destination Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie and the Dallas suburb’s entertainment district.

“No question it is going to be something that can serve as a springboard to development; it is located in an opportunity zone,” Grand Prairie Director of Economic Development Marty Wieder said.

How and why a Texas school district became SpaceX’s Starlink lab

  • SpaceX has rocketed nearly 900 internet-beaming Starlink satellites into orbit in hopes of beginning the internet service sometime in 2021.

When it rolled out a big test of its Starlink satellite-internet project this summer, SpaceX decided to make Ector County Independent School District, a rural education system in western Texas, a vital experiment.
