Hyundai, Kia and Genesis’ electric futures ride atop the E-GMP platform

Hyundai’s slippery Prophecy electric four-door is rumored to spawn a production model on the company’s E-GMP platform.

Hyundai

Hyundai has already telegraphed it’s going all in on battery-electric vehicles, and on Tuesday, officials at the Korean automaker detailed how they plan to get there: by riding atop the company’s new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This new architecture will support the Hyundai Motor Group’s goal of introducing 23 Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) models by 2025 across its Hyundai, Kia and Genesis model ranges. The company’s goal is to sell 1 million BEVs in that same time frame, representing 20 percent of its global sales.

The automaker claims its new rear-wheel-drive-based E-GMP architecture will provide impressive benefits. Vehicles produced on this platform will get over 310 miles on a single charge, at least when measured on the (admittedly more lenient) WLTP test cycle. Hyundai also says the platform’s electric powertrain will be

Morning Bell With Jim Cramer: Buy General Electric

Dow futures gains as stocks power higher on the AstraZeneca vaccine update, which showed a 70% efficacy rate across all doses in late-stage trial data.

In the last episode of Mad Money, Jim Cramer said that the stock market is a tug-of-war between the virus and the vaccine, and also between Biden versus Trump. Hopefully, during next week’s holiday-shortened week, we will get some clarity on both.

TheStreet’s Katherine Ross and Cramer are talking about buying General Electric, Arcturus vaccine, and Roblox filing to go public.

General Electric Stock: Buy or Sell?

The General Electric  (GE) – Get Report unit GE Healthcare announced Friday that it has acquired Swedish startup Prismatic Sensors, a company that specializes in photon-counting detectors for medical x-ray imaging that it said will dramatically improve body-scan imaging.

In a statement, GE said it will apply Prismatic Sensors’ technology, called PCCT, or Deep Silicon Detectors,

Has Joby Cracked The Power Problem To Make Electric Air Taxis Work?

As a college freshman in 1992 interested in building aircraft capable of taking off and landing vertically, JoeBen Bevirt landed in the right place: the lab of flying car pioneer Paul Moller at the University of California, Davis.

But despite deep respect for Moller, Bevirt soon concluded that it wasn’t going to work. The rotary gas-powered engines Moller was developing for his Skycar were intolerably loud and research Bevirt did on batteries led him to believe it would be decades before they would contain enough energy at a low enough weight to make a quieter electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft possible. He turned to robotics instead.

A few decades of battery

GM’s electric vehicle ambitions tied to software, digital transformation

General Motors is launching 30 new electric vehicles through 2025 via its Ultium battery platform, but the story and ultimate success revolves around applications and customer experiences.

Simply put, GM’s EV-centric strategy is closely linked to its digital transformation. Like Ford, GM is looking to deliver profits via ongoing customer relationships and digital experiences.

And GM is putting its money behind the EV ambition. GM will spend more than $27 billion in related EV spending and hire 3,000 electrical system, infotainment software and controls engineers, plus developers for Java, Android, iOS and other platforms. GM has 20,000 software and electrical engineers today.

The additional 3,000 engineers and IT workers will be added through the first quarter of 2021.

“To drive and guide our profitability moving forward, our growth strategy is a 360-degree view of the business designed around delivering world-class customer interactions. This strategy is the compass for every business

Rivian raises pricing for its electric truck and SUV

Rivian is preparing to ship its electric truck and SUV next year, and it has updated pricing for the vehicles. There’ll be launch editions for each with included off-road upgrades as part of an Adventure Package. The R1T pickup truck has a base price of $75,000 and the R1S SUV starts at $77,500.

Those prices are a bit higher than you might have expected. Rivian founder RJ Scaringe indicated earlier this year that mid-range R1T would cost $69,000 and a similar R1S would be $72,000. However, they’ll be eligible for a federal tax credit of $7,500.

The pickup will start shipping in June and the SUV in August. Those who’ve pre-ordered can start configuring their EV on November 16th, and everyone else will be able to do so from November 23rd.

Both launch versions will have a 300-mile range, though Rivian says a 400-mile battery pack will be available for
